SOLs Covered: 7.PFA.1 Proportional Relationships & Slope
Math Topic: 12 Proportional Relationships & Slope
Daily Agenda: March 2-6, 2026
Upcoming Assessments: Schoolwide Math MAP Testing (Thurs. 3/12); Unit 8 Slope & Dilations (Thurs. 3/12-Fri. 3/13)
Good morning! This is going to be another quick update as I have to rearrange my classroom before leaving today in order to be prepared for Monday's school-wide MAP reading test. Hopefully you've heard from your child's English teacher about it, but please reach out to them if you have questions specifically regarding it as I can only answer general questions about it. We will also be taking the final math MAP test next week (Thurs. 3/12). This round of MAP testing for both will be completed differently than they have in the past. Due to recent state mandates, teachers cannot test students for whom they are the teacher of record for the subject. This means that I cannot proctor the test for any of my own math students and they will instead be with another 7th grade math teacher. I will however be able to proctor for English as I'm not their assigned English teacher. While this isn't the state SOL test, we're using this as a trial run. If all goes to plan, the students will be with the same teacher for the spring SOL tests, which start mid-April. The schedule is still being finalized for math testing locations, but I will tell the kids where they'll be testing as soon as it is sent to us by the school's testing coordinator.
In regards to math, it's been a little hectic again this week with many disruptions to our work that pulled kids from the classroom. Between the new mentoring program that started this week, band/orchestra assessments, kids leaving early for games/meets, along with various smaller disruptions, I've decided to not do formative checks for the two topics on this current unit, instead grading a few more assignments. Additionally, I'm leaning toward doing the final summative of the term together as a class rather than independently, especially when factoring in the altered testing schedule for Monday and Thursday, which further cuts down on class time. There's a small possibility that might change, but I highly doubt it at this point.
That should cover everything, but please feel free to email if you have any questions. Just a reminder that I do not respond to emails outside of working hours in efforts to establish a more healthy work/life balance, but I will get back to you Monday. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
