What a week! I'm sure Wednesday left everyone a little more anxious and being an auntie with a niece at EDMS, I very much appreciated the moment I was able to check in with her and get a hug in before getting back to directing the kids through the lunch line while we were still over at ESES. The kids did an amazing job staying calm and following procedures. It goes without saying that I'm beyond happy that it all turned out to be a hoax, but I'm also comforted in knowing that all of our drills have prepared us for situations like this.
Before getting into the rest of our weekly math happenings, I want to thank all the folks who sent in pencils and glue sticks this week! Your generosity has been incredible and it very much turned around the rest of my week! Maybe it's a little lame to be that happy about pencils and glue sticks, but I don't care! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Even with the disruption to our day on Wednesday, we still got a lot done this week. The kids started the test Monday, wrapping it up on Tuesday as needed. The results were mixed, but for the kids that performed low on it, the majority of errors were again in missing part of the question (ex. finding tax when the final total was wanted, solving probability for independent events because the missed the keyword making it dependent, only found one correct answer for a TEI, etc.). These types of errors we'll continue to work through, especially as we get into our SOL review work, which will start soon after we return from spring break. The rest of the week was spent on composite figures, which we'll continue with after break. Ideally, I would try to not split a topic up over a break, but timing just didn't make that possible and since this has generally been a topic the kids feel very comfortable, I think they'll do well with it after we review the work we covered this week.
I'm going to wrap to wrap things up here since I've had three other teachers stop by on their way out now asking if I was leaving, so I figure that's a sign I need to pack it up and start my spring break. I hope everyone has a great weekend and for those that also get a break next week, I hope you're able to use it to rejuvenate and enjoy time with family and friends!
