Greetings! This will be another super quick update as Synergy (ParentVUE) will be going down for maintenance in a bit. It will hopefully be a short downtime, but I wanted to make sure this went out before then. It's been another busy week of algebra in all the classes with the MSM2 students working on multi-step equations while the honors kids worked with polynomials.
With MSM2, the kids have taken fairly well with the topic and they all seemed to really enjoy the "Sweet Algebra!" activity on Wednesday. There was a little bit of struggle when we switched the modeling over to traditional algebra tiles and then into the "normal" solving method, so we spent a little extra time reviewing on Friday before jumping into the quiz. The kids were doing really well with taking their time to show their work, but with the extra review time and their extra diligence, this ended up meaning that most of the students will need time to complete it on Monday.
The honors students tackled polynomials, which is technically an Algebra I high school topic added into the CCPS Math 7H curriculum. The kids have done an awesome job with it and seemed to enjoy the relative simplicity of the topic even though simplifying lengthy polynomials can take a bit of time. Since it can take a little extra time, most of the honors kids also need time to finish their quiz on Monday before we jump into the next topic.
All students will be working on solving and graphing algebraic inequalities next week. For this, I again have a food activity which means I have another permission form to go along with it, which quite a few students still need to return. We'll be using Oreos and pretzel sticks, so we would again be very appreciative for any donations folks might want to send in to help with this activity. This is of course not a requirement for students to participate. Additionally, if folks have any spare pencils lying around or would be willing to buy a few to send in, my last pencil was claimed today. Many thanks again to all those who helped with the "Sweet Algebra!" supplies!
Well, I need to wrap this up here since the system will be going down very soon (please forgive any typos!). As always, please feel free to email if you have any questions. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!
