Greetings! It was a short but fun-filled week leading up to winter break. With all the snow days from last week and many students already out for the holidays, I decided to save the next topic (relations and functions) for after the break. We used the time this week to review a topic needed for the topic, the coordinate plane and graphing, to better set us up for the upcoming topic that requires a lot of graphing. The kids enjoyed work (even some of my most reluctant mathematicians) since I included some Cartesian cartoons with their work. Cartesian cartoons are essentially a connect-the-dots activity, but students must first plot the points that will be connected. I remember always enjoying these as a kid, so I'd hoped the kids would enjoy them as well, which seems to be the case. They were given three to work on this week; only one needs to be completed for their grade while the others could be completed for extra Lambie Points.
The students were also given time to work on some of their missing/incomplete assignments so they could head into break all caught up. Students who still have missing/incomplete work are highly encouraged to take advantage of the extra time break provides to get caught up so they can end this term on a high note. I've also set up this term's extra credit opportunity; students can earn up to a total of 20 points (10 summative, 10 formative assessment) by completing 2 hours on ALEKS by the end of the day on January 4th. After some prompting by the kids, I've also decided to add ALEKS as an ongoing Lambie Points opportunity for work completed beyond the 2 hours; each additional hour can earn 10 Lambie Points.
While I'll also use some of the break to work, I'll obviously want to spend time celebrating with family and friends, so I'll be slower responding to any emails while we're out, but still feel free to email with any questions. I hope everyone is able to enjoy the holidays as well with their family and friends! Happy Holidays!
