¡Hola! It's been another fun filled week of coding and I've continued to be both impressed and beyond thrilled with how well the kids have taken to it! I've seen some great moments of pride in the results their seeing and several students are even taking the assignment to the next level in the "free play" segments. The "free play" sections are where students can just play around with the entire program and create whatever they want and some of the kids have really enjoyed these parts. Some were so thrilled with their work, they wanted to share immediately and I've included a few pictures on my teacher Twitter and Instagram accounts. The kids should be wrapping up their work on the coding as well as the additional components of their project, so you will likely have them asking you to play their game and complete a survey as part of their work. While the coding needed for creating the game is beginner level, it is still pretty impressive what they've been able to accomplish with most students having little background in coding!
The project is due on Monday (6/3), but I will continue to take work through the end of the school day next Friday (6/7). As previously mentioned in my last update, that's the last day I will take any work to be counted towards grades (missing/incomplete and/or quiz/test corrections). The last extra credit opportunity will close tonight, so please encourage the kids to get at least a little time in after school today if they haven't already completed the maximum (2 hours for up to 20 points). We'll also be working on the mini-project next week (the Math Art Gallery), but I'm very generous in my grading for that assignment since we're all closing things out and kids have extra things in their schedules (summer sports, family events, graduations, etc.), so as long as they stay actively engaged while we're working in class, it's a very easy assignment to get through.
That should cover everything but as always, let me know if you have any questions. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
