Howdy, folks! It's been a very busy week of math SOL testing, but we've finally made it! For all students who tested this week, scores have already been posted in a "not for grading" category on ParentVUE along with a note on whether it was a passing or failing score. Students who are eligible for a retake have an additional note stating as much and these students were already given letters to take home about the retake.
You will also find that some assessment scores (both summative and formative) have been updated with an additional note as well. I've begun adjusting scores to reflect any growth achieved based on the student's score; this is only done for grades that were below their SOL equivalent score (using the county's high school exam conversion chart), so essentially the kids have earned bonus points for all their hard work.
As previously mentioned, once I've started giving math SOLs to any of my students, I am not allowed to work with kids on math due to testing security rules. Therefore the kids have been working independently this week either in preparation for their on SOL (prior to SOL testing) or reviewing for the final test of the year (post SOL testing). The kids were all given a review packet that can be self-checked using a Google Sheet answer document that fills in with a picture when the answer is correct. Since my testing sessions wrapped up on Thursday, I was able to answer questions for kids Friday, but the kids for the most part were in a really good place due to all of our SOL review. We'll be taking the county post-test on Monday and Tuesday, then starting our coding project, which will carry on for 2-3 of the last 4 weeks of school. You can get a preview of what the project entails by checking out my Coding in Math Class page.
That should about cover it but as always, feel free to email if you have any questions. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
