And that's a wrap! Most of the week was spent playing (and sometimes creating) a variety of educational games, including Bloxels and Floors by Pixel Press. I was able to play a couple games of Chinese checkers with a few kids in two of my classes. I apparently can't "drop the teacher side" and was giving advice along the way since most hadn't played before; this backfired as they started conspiring together against me. Good job to the first period girls who succeeded in that venture. Nice try to the fourth period crew who fought a hard battle and kept me on my toes! There were a few puzzles available as well, including one of my favorite number puzzles, KenKen, which I find much more challenging than Sudoku. A few kids also chose to give the origami project a try. For kids who didn't at the time or weren't able to finish putting it all together, you'll need to get/make 12 square pieces of paper and then follow the steps in this video. We had a break from this routine on Thursday for the awards ceremony in the morning followed by pizza and snacks in the classroom for the rest of the day. Congratulations to the many Ravens who received awards and a huge thank you to everyone who helped by donating supplies for this. We had so many things donated that we had enough to give every kid chips and/or drinks again on Friday.
It's been quite a year and I've seen the kids grow so much throughout, both academically and socially. I'm so proud of how far these kids have come and I foresee great things in their futures. I'd like to encourage the kids to hang onto the links I've shared with them this year as they can be of use to them in the future. If they at least save the link to my class website, they'll be able to get to everything else from there. For kids who need recommendations for specialty centers, I'll be more than happy to help. Again, I'm so proud of you all and I wish you all the very best in the future. Good luck in 8th grade next year! H.A.G.S.!!!
