Hello everyone! It's been another busy testing week, so there isn't much to tell regarding math class this week and thus things will be fairly quick. I think I say that most weeks and then end up sending a short essay, but this week I'll try to stick to it.
While a few kids still had to finish up the second test of the term, the rest of us were reviewing for the first county benchmark test. The honors class had marvellous results overall and while I had them working on review topics on Khan Academy Thursday, I allowed them to spend the block Friday reviewing for the science test I noticed a few were stressing over before the bell today.
The MSM2 classes had mixed results ranging across the grading scale. After reviewing the questions created by the county, I found a few questions presented in ways we hadn't covered in class as I'd never seen them presented that way on any type of middle school assessment before, so I adjusted the point value for the test to counter that. We will definitely be reviewing the questions and I'll be creating alternate versions for future warm ups so the kids will get additional exposure to those types of questions. I'll be trying to come up with other possible twists on questions for future assignments and assessments as well. While a few kids needed a little extra time to finish their test at the end of the week, the rest were given the opportunity to make up missing or redo low-grade Edmodo Work Checks; those are the non-quiz grades each unit where the questions are pulled from the various assignments completed throughout the unit. There were also students who took advantage of the last chance to complete an error analysis on assessments. All the students who fully utilized these opportunities and put real effort into it will be happy to find how it has positively affected their grades.
Well, I'm going to wrap things up here. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email or message me via Synergy/ParentVUE. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
