We've knocked out the first week of the second semester and you can almost feel spring in the air... well, not quite yet, but you can see it on the horizon... if you look hard enough. Before getting into the past week's activities, I wanted to cover a few pieces of business first. Foremost, I've tentatively paced out the rest of the year and while there may need to be changes as things come up along the way (please, no more snow!), you can check out the calendar here to see how the units are planned out and when assessments will take place (including the SOL test).
Next, we keep running super low on pencils. I've filled the pencil dispenser several times recently, only for it to be quickly emptied within the week. If anyone is willing and able to donate a few pencils (and yes, we'd happily take used pencils), the kids and I would very much appreciate it! The MSM2 kids in my 1st and 2nd block classes will also be doing another food activity this week for our work on probability and I'll be sending home permission letters for that tomorrow. If you are willing and able to send in donations for that (this time it's candy/conversation hearts of any variety as long as they are multiple colors, bonus if they are individual packages), it would be a huge help and again very much appreciated. The 7H class (3rd block) isn't working on the same topics right now, so they might be a little disappointed to learn they do not get to participate at this time, but they'll have their own version of the activity later in the year when they get to probability.
Now onto this week's math happenings. All classes reviewed for the term 2 benchmark, which resulted in the first three grades of the term, the first for the study guide assignment, the second for a digital warm up on Google Classroom, and the third for the test itself. While there are still some students needing to wrap up the test and even the review assignments due to absence (the flu has been making the rounds recently), there are other students who are already allowing themselves to fall behind in their work. I've already started fussing at them to get (and keep) themselves back on track, but I'd greatly appreciate it if parents/guardians would help me with this by adding a little fussing of their own. Grades can be checked at anytime on ParentVUE/StudentVUE and I try to post grades within a day or two of the assignment to help everyone properly keep track of things. I can happily report that some students obviously took the fussing to heart though as they made sure to turn the work in at their next opportunity.
Well, I'm going to close things out here but as always, please feel free to email at anytime. I hope everyone has a great week!
