Howdy! As you can probably imagine, it's been a busy day here at the Nest! Valentine's Day in a middle school is always full of extra energy, but adding in an early release day, report cards (be sure to ask your student about them!), and starting the day with a mini pep rally parade to honor our cheerleader champions (Go Ravens!) ensured that the kids were a little extra hyped up for the day. All of my kids were still awesome of course, just needing a little extra redirection when their focus would wonder, but since we wrapped up our work on consumer math with a comprehensive review to prepare for next week's quiz, I ask that all kids spend a little more time reviewing everything over the long weekend.
To continue with our "math happenings" for the week, we continued working with our consumer math topics as previously mentioned, but I've had to adjust things a bit after I got a surprise in the mail in the form of a summons for jury duty next week. Learning that I could potentially get called again any time through the beginning of April, I decided to postpone the previously planned store project I'd mentioned to the kids to ensure we have plenty of time for covering all of the material prior to SOL testing. The kids always love working on this project, so we'll try to work it in after SOLs prior to Chromebook collection.
Hopefully I won't be called again for jury duty after next week (the last time I was summoned, I was only out two days total, so fingers crossed!), but I pushed the quiz for this unit to the day I am out (Thursday, Feb. 20) to ensure an easier day for the kids and substitute. There have been some internet issues recently that could potential force other plans but since I always have paper copies of the quiz in part for reasons like that, it should help keep us otherwise on track with plans and curriculum. We'll start our work with probability on Tuesday and while it's not ideal to work on a new topic prior to quizzing on the last topic, I think that's the most ideal plan at this point. I hate taking off for any reason, but you do what you have to, right?
I need to close things out here since teachers are spending the rest of this early release day with professional development and I have to run off for our meeting. As always, please feel free to email with any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
