Happy Holidays!!! I plan to keep this update quick so everyone can start their breaks as soon as possible... well, your break from school at least as I know some of you won't get to start your break yet and others will even be working straight through the holidays. To those working through the holidays to keep our world moving along, thank you!!!
In regards to math, we've continued our work with relations and functions, which will be reviewed and continued after the break. I'm not 100% sure when we'll have the quiz since it will depend on how well the kids retain the current work over the break, so I do ask that if at all possible, kids review everything we've already done before school starts back up on Monday, January 4, 2021. In addition to the relations and functions work, the kids also had a review assignment (12 Days of Mathmas) to complete for a formative assessment grade; right now it's the only grade in that category, so it is either a huge help to kids (if done correctly) or a big hit (if not completed at all). There are two extra credit points even, so it can further help kids if they do all 12 days.
Speaking of extra credit, so far I've only had two students complete the previously mentioned ALEKS extra credit, so I ask that parents/guardians help me out by encouraging their children to take advantage of this opportunity. It cannot hurt their overall grade, only help, so there's no downside outside of a little extra time and effort. It doesn't have to be completed all at once and the kids can even retry for missed questions (though they'll be given a new, similar question). Even students with higher grades are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity since any points that push their grade above a 100% by the end of the term will be switched over into Lambie Points. While they can't be spent on many things right now, some kids have already enjoyed the chance at "buying" a homework pass to get out of completing an assignment of their choosing. Just a heads up that the conversion into Lambie Points won't happen until the end of the term in case they end up needing those "extra" extra credit points because of a later quiz or assignment.
Again, I'd like to encourage kids with missing or incomplete work to spend at least a little time getting caught up over the break, but I do hope that everyone takes some time to just chill and spend time with your loved ones as well over the holidays. I'll "disconnect" some over the break as well, but please don't hesitate to email/message me if you have any questions. While I'll warn that I'll be a little slower to respond, I will get back to you at the very least by the end of the day once we return... well, unless my inbox gets blasted, then it might take me an extra day, but the odds of that happening aren't very high.
On that note, I'll wrap things up here (they're also blasting 90's Christmas songs and telling us we need to leave over the intercom so...). I want to wish all of you the happiest of holidays! I can't wait to see you all again in the new year... fingers crossed it can be in person in the not-to-distant future!!!
Happy Holidays!!!
