It's been another interesting week here and I think we've gotten to the point where even the kids are tired of the snow... mostly. I'm sure there are some kids who are still hoping for a few more snow days this year but I at least am hoping we can get back to normal and the forecast for this week looks like I should get my wish for the time being. Fingers crossed the rest of winter we'll stay mild compared to what we've already had! If you haven't had a chance to look over it yet, you can check out the county's plan for making up the snow days here.
The snow days have obviously continued to affect our plans in class, but we've finally wrapped up our work on basic ratios, rates, and proportions, which means we'll finally be able to get into our final unit of the term, consumer math... right after MAP testing (please see this post on the school website for additional information on MAP testing). I've figured out how to add the kids' MAP scores to Khan Academy, which will help them focus and receive independent, personalized help through the site. It will likely take me a little while to get all the scores added since it appears that currently the scores have to be added one student at a time, so I will keep everyone posted on when that is finished or if things change in this regard. In the mean time, the extra credit opportunity for this term has been posted to Khan Academy and will be available through the last day of term (Friday, February 2). Additionally, everyone is reminded that all "old" work must be turned in no later than Wednesday, January 31st; the exception being the upcoming consumer math project (due Feb. 1) and some of the other work for Unit 17, which we'll be starting later this week.
Unfortunately, the snow does mean that the final test on the second term materials has to be pushed to the first week of the third term. This does allow for one major benefit; students who want the chance to "buy" a chance at correcting the final term 2 test (using Liberty/Lambie Points) will have a little extra time to take care of it without having to worry about the last day of the first semester.
I'm going to close things out here but as always, feel free to email with any questions. With the term/semester wrapping up soon, I encourage everyone to stay on top of grades through StudentVUE/ParentVUE. Additionally, check out the school and county websites for updates to scheduled events.
