Happy holidays! This is coming out a smidge later than usual and I know some folks are already immersed in their holiday festivities, so this will definitely be a quick update. The 7H kids merged their previous work with proportions into consumer applications, building on that work and adding in simple interest and various percent problems (ex. percent of change, tax/tip/discount/commission, etc.). Since I pushed up the county quiz, we used the previously planned unit quiz as a review; the kids completed the unit quiz independently, but we went over it all together before they submitted. The MSM2 students reviewed for the big algebra (covering translating, equations, and inequalities) before taking the test. All classes had Friday as a catch-up/make-up day, allowing them to work on bringing up their grades with corrections on assessments and completing missing assignments.
I encourage students to work on completing the things they couldn't finish during the break; even if it's late, they can use their points to still earn credit without penalty. I wasn't able to share the digital copies of the last assessments in the usual way through Hapara (technical issues), so I instead shared them directly through Google Drive. This means that students will not find the most recent assessments in their math folders but instead in "Shared with me," which they can then add to their drive and move to their math folder. After break, students will no longer be able to turn in corrections on summative CCPS quizzes and while students will still be able to turn in corrections on summative tests through the end of the semester, those will also be eliminated for the second semester. Students will be able to spend their points to either do corrections or even completely retake the assessments once they've been eliminated as "freebies."
I'm going to wrap things up now, but students and parents/guardians should still feel free to email/message me with any questions. While I definitely plan to enjoy the break as much as the kids, I will occasionally work on school stuff and check for emails/messages. It will take a smidge longer to hear back from me during the break than you might be used to during the school week, but I will reply. I hope everyone enjoys the break and the holidays!
