Greetings all! I'm keeping this week's summary short since I'm pretty busy with both school and life stuff, including preparing to help some of the other teachers at EDMS set up their own class sites during our staff development on Tuesday. Be on the lookout for a few new resources from some of the kids' other teachers!
This week the 7H kids wrapped up their work on geometric transformations. We did the "regular" quiz (the one we, the EDMS teachers, created) together as a class as part of our review for the county quiz, which was taken the next day. The results were fairly good, though some students still showed a struggle with the vocabulary (confusing the terms with each other) and carefully reading some of the problems (missing important steps). We then got started working on composite figures the rest of the week. The kids have done well with the topic so far, though I encourage them to carefully read through problems to ensure they do not miss steps. We'll wrap up the unit this week.
The MSM2 students wrapped up their work on volume and surface area for the time being. We spent time focusing on breaking down word problems to ensure they properly identified what they were looking for (surface area, volume, or even a missing dimension). We also explored how changing an attribute/dimension affects the surface area and volume. These kids also did the "regular" quiz together in order to help prepare them for the test and the county quiz. The overall results were pretty great overall! There are a few students who still need to finish up the final assessment, so they'll be given time tomorrow.
