Seasons Greetings, folks! I hope everyone has had an amazing week! I certainly have and I'd like to start this week's update by thanking whoever nominated me for a county Game Changer award. I was so shocked to see the superintendent and our school board member standing in my classroom doorway this week, but it was the most amazing surprise and so very much appreciated. Thank you, mystery person! Thank you also to all the kiddos and their grownups who brought/sent in gifts and treats. I've been truly spoiled this week and I can't tell you how thankful I am. I truly love these kiddos (even when they occasionally drive me insane... maybe even especially then since they're normally just being goofy and hilarious, LOL!), so I genuinely mean it when I say it's a gift in itself to be their teacher (seriously! y'alls kids are awesome!), so the goodies have just been icing on the cake. Thank you, everyone!
In regards to this week's math happenings, we continued working on the data analysis unit we started last week, building on our new knowledge of scatterplots and then adding in box plots (aka box-and-whisker plots) in the second part of the week. The week wrapped up with a quiz, which I hate having to do the day before a break, but it's just how the work fell this year. That being said, I did have all the work published and available for working early since a few kids were leaving early for their break and then as fate would have it, so many other kids were kept home to quarantine. At this point, there are still students who haven't submitted their quiz and a few others with other missing work (including missing ALEKS), so I encourage them to take advantage of the two weeks off to get caught up on everything. While both of the extra credit opportunities will be officially past due after today, I will still accept those as well. Please help me by encouraging the kids to take advantage of these opportunities.
I will do one more grade sync tomorrow before disconnecting for the rest of the break, but any work completed over the break will of course still be counted. It won't be updated until we return to school and the next grade sync is done that Monday morning of January 3rd, but every little bit helps! That day is planned as a catchup day to help with this, but all work must be submitted by Monday, January 10th to be counted towards their final term average.
Well, that should cover everything for this week. As always, please reach out if you have any questions, though you won't hear back from me until we return from break as we've been encouraged by administration that we are expected to disconnect from school over that time to relax and rejuvenate so we can come back strong in the new year. On that note, I sign off for 2021 wishing everyone an amazing couple of weeks during which I hope everyone can enjoy time with friends and family. Happy Holidays!!!!
