Happy Friday, folks! It's already 4:30PM and I'm just now starting this update and add in the fact that I still have a bit to do after I send this, I'm going to try keep this update on the short-and-sweet side (keyword "try" since I've said this before, but you've seen the novels I tend to send). Before getting into this week's math happenings, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that I'm making further adjustments to my morning tutoring sessions. With the addition of the new ETEH time, there's a bit of extra prep work needed on the teacher side, so I'll need to drop the Tuesday morning sessions, but I will still be available for extra help on Thursday mornings starting at 7AM. That being said, the new ETEH time is allowing me additional opportunities to work with kids in smaller groups as well as having kids work on making up work. Right now I'm focused on getting the last few kids all caught up on the final benchmark test, though I have requested that students who haven't yet submitted complete an attempt on their own to help me narrow down the group to those truly needing the extra help versus those who just need to catch up from an absence but don't really need the additional support. Once they are submitted, I can "unsubmit" their test on my side so they can still finish with my help, but this again helps me with forming my groups each day as well as ensures the student no longer has it marked as missing in the gradebook, which consequently comes with a grade of 0F until completed. It's my hope to have all kids caught up by the end of next week, but it's very important that kids try to avoid missing school next week if at all possible.
In regard to this week's math work, we started one of my favorite units of the year, probability. Because of the limited time before SOL testing starts, I'm not able to do some of the activities I would normally do, but I have linked on the Daily Agenda and on Canvas to some probability related games that will give a little taste of those activities. We'll be wrapping the unit up with a quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday, but as with the test, I will be using the quiz to review for the SOL by going over it on the board. I have told kids that they need to do their first attempt as homework this before quiz day so that we (both the students and I) can see where they would stand with the topic on their own. Since this is also my plan for our final unit, I've been able to rearrange things a bit to get some extra time for full SOL review, adding in three extra days. The calendar has been updated to reflect these changes and I'm working to finalize the Daily Agendas for the rest of the year.
Well, I only got a little carried away with this update, but I'm going to close things out here. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
