Hello! First and foremost, it's the moment many of you have been waiting for! We got permission to start telling the kids their scores today. To ensure their scores are kept private and also to allow for easy sharing with parents/guardians, I always set up an extra entry in the gradebook under the "not for grading" category and post the scores there. This allows students to check their scores when they want (some get too much anxiety at the thought, so they can postpone if they choose) and their grown-ups can see immediately. The only scores I do not have are for those who have just made up the test today and those who haven't taken it yet. I will update with any of the retakes as I get them next week and add a note that it's the retake score so you'll know if it was truly updated.
This week has been pretty different as I've not seen most of my students from 1st and 2nd block other than a few minutes here and there as I've been running two of the remediation groups during those blocks. I know that some of those kids have questions and need help with the coding project we started last week and as I previously mentioned as a possibility, we'll definitely extend the project into the beginning of next week. Since there are students in my 4th block who have been pulled out for remediation as well this week (with another teacher since the vast majority of my students have stayed in class 4th block and that's too many to split or send with a sub to another location), I'm extending the project deadline for them as well. I do ask that all the kids try to have the backstory and cover art portion done before Monday though so that we can just focus on the coding.
For all the students who have been in remediation this week for any class, the SOL retakes will take place next week. Monday is the Reading SOL retake, Tuesday is our Math SOL retake, the Science SOL for those who were in honors science will be on Thursday, and anyone who misses on those days any make-up retakes will be on Tuesday, May 31st.
Before I close this out, I did want to remind the kiddos that while it's officially past the due date, I'm still accepting the extra credit opportunities through next Friday, May 27th. That's also the last day I'll accept any final attempts for work from this marking period. While no one is failing in any of my classes (which I can't tell you how incredibly proud I am of these kids for that!!!) and we're at a point were their grades won't drop for me, there are some kids who are on the border of one grade and the next one up, so I'd love to see an extra push of effort from them to get them over that edge.
I think that should cover just about everything but as always, please email if you have any questions. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!!!
