Howdy, folks! Before getting into last week's math happenings, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the term ended this past Friday and grades for most students are set. However, there were a handful of students with absences over the last two weeks of the term that will result in their report card showing an "Incomplete" that will be updated as soon as the students have had a chance to make up the work. If that's before report cards get sent home, I'll write the grade that day, but grades are always available on ParentVUE.
All classes started the week with a little extra time to wrap up their Math Art Gallery project before submitting. I was super impressed with everything the kids came up with and I'm hoping we'll have time after SOL testing to add to their slideshows with some of our other topics covered earlier in the year along with the handful of topics we have left this year. This will depend on the Chromebook collection date, which has yet to be determined, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
The MSM2 classes started last week with a review of the topics covered on the county's post-test, which is used to measure growth/progress when compared to their pre-test scores from the beginning of the year. The kids did an outstanding job and everyone showed growth, most with considerable gains, so I'm super proud of everyone! The rest of the week was spent covering sequences, which is an SOL on it's own but also a precursor for the topic of functions, the topic we'll be working on this week into next once we've wrapped up our final round of MAP testing for the year.
The post-test for the 7H class was put on hold since there was one 4th term topic (scatterplots) that was added to the test year. Since that's a 4th quarter topic, I had to push the unit forward before we can knock out the test. The kids did great with the topic, but many need a little extra time to wrap up the quiz, which they'll be given on Tuesday when MAP testing is wrapped up.
We're officially starting the final term tomorrow, but some of last week's work (Unit 23 for the MSM2 classes and Unit 24 for 7H) will all be added to the final quarter to allow students a chance to finish any missing/incomplete assignments without the risk of it negatively affecting their overall grade. I'll start posting those starting Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how long it takes the kids to finish MAP testing and then get back to their unit work.
Well, that should do it for this week. As always, feel free to email if you have any questions. Until next time folks!
