Greetings on this lovely Saturday! I'm currently entertaining my 4-year-old nephew while my sister does her taxes, so I'll be keeping this short so I can get back to Finding Dory and playing with all the "cool toys" that Aunt Kimmie keeps for just this type of thing.
The 7H class started their week with the first test of the term, covering the Pythagorean theorem and angle relationships. They then moved onto covering geometric transformations. We've only covered reflections and rotations at this week, but they've been doing well so far. The rotations can be a little trickier, but since we're still only rotating about the origin it's a bit easier. I've shown the kids how to do a "rough draft" to determine what the new points should be before drawing it out. We'll cover translations and dilations next week before they take the quiz.
The MSM2 students covered quadrilaterals, which they've covered in parts for a few years, just adding new attributes each year. This year's focus are the diagonals, which do prove to be a little difficult for the kids. My biggest tip to help with this is simply for the kids to draw the shapes when presented a problem without a picture. Most kids did an excellent job with that this week, but those still not taking the time to write things out and show their work are continuing to make mistakes that negatively affect their work/grades. Please continue to encourage the kids to put extra effort into their work; there has been noticeable improvements for many of the kids, so many thanks for the support from home!
We're running low on pencils again (they go through them like crazy!), so if anyone is able to send some more in, we'd all be greatly appreciative! Thanks to all the folks who have sent stuff in each time I send out a call for help! Well, my nephew is getting antsy (the Legos are currently out and that requires help apparently), so I'm going to close things out here. As always, feel free to email if you have any questions. I hope everyone enjoys this lovely weekend!
