Greetings, folks! I'm feeling a little under the weather at the moment, so I'm just going to hit on all the key things from this past week before closing it out. Both groups went more in depth with the topics we began during the short week (Week 13) before wrapping it all up with assessments. Since the honors class had completed the last of the algebra unit, it was time for their test but since we also had a county assessment, I felt it was a little too much to also throw a unit quiz on inequalities at them. We therefore did what I'm calling a "classwork quiz" where the students worked on the inequalities quiz independently before we went over the whole thing prior to students submitting. This was done so students could experience how inequalities are formally assessed, thus better preparing them for both the county quiz and our school's test. The MSM2 classes did many, many equations this week and though it was a struggle, especially with some of the more difficult problems we covered, but the kids embraced the work. With the help of the "algebra cards" we made in class, they are able to guide themselves through multi-step equations. They took their quiz on Friday and since most were being extremely careful with walking through each problem one step at a time, some need extra time to finish. I told them they could work on it some over the weekend, but that they could wait to submit until Monday in case they have questions they need to ask.
Well, that's about all I have in me at the moment. I will definitely be in class tomorrow since it's just a sinus headache... I promise to not miss school myself as long as it can be avoided and since you can't catch allergies, I'll do my best to make it through the day. The kids might enjoy having a substitute (they seem to think a sub means a "free day"), but we've still got plenty of work to do!
