Howdy! As previously mentioned, we're getting really close to the end of term (Fri. 3/29; this is also an early release day). The kids currently have an extra credit opportunity through ALEKS which is open through Monday, March 25th. That is also the last day I will accept anything from this term's units (#14-20); this includes turning in missing/incomplete work as well as quiz corrections for quizzes 3.01-3.04. The one exception will be some of the notebook work as grading those will carry over into Tuesday (3/26) and possibly even Wednesday (3/27). Please help me by encouraging your child/children to take advantage of these opportunities.
Regarding this week's work, we wrapped up our work on angle relationships at the start of the week. In general, the kids understand the concepts and even how to solve for missing angles, but some are still confusing the vocabulary. For those students, creating flash cards to help them memorize the differences. After angles wrapped up, we moved onto constructing 3-D models. The kids had a lot of fun with this unit as it allowed them to basically play with blocks the entire time. However some students quickly become frustrated when it came time to draw them. As I told them, they shouldn't let that small bit of a struggle bring them down as it is highly unlikely that quiz/test questions will ever be presented that way. Assessment questions have always been matching either the 2-D views to the 3-D models or vice versa, which the kids have done really well with but since SOL questions are always a mystery, I cannot promise they will never see them in another format though it is highly unlikely though.
We'll be taking the test Monday and the kids will be given time to finish on Tuesday. Classes will be shorter on Tuesday since the first half of the day will be taken up with the county's spring math MAP test (the reading test will take place the week after spring break). The work for the rest of the week (the start of Unit 21 Composite Figures) will be added to the final report card.
I'm going to close things out here but as always, feel free to email if you have any questions. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Looks like we'll actually get more sun... two weekends in a row!
