Good afternoon! I've got some family stuff this afternoon, so I can't linger long on this update, but I first wanted to thank those who sent their condolences after last week's update along with all those folks who expressed their thanks to teachers this week in a variety of ways. The kindness and consideration for both is very much appreciated.
The week started with the final test for B-day students, which we went over in the now typical way of the kids doing their first attempt on their own (which is simply done on paper for tests) before we went over the whole thing together on the board. The week proceeded in the same way once we started going over all of our SOL review work. The SOLs are divided into five categories/strands: Numbers & Number Sense; Computation & Estimation; Measurement & Geometry; Probability & Statistics, and Patterns, Functions, & Algebra. For each strand, the students have a formative check to complete on their own, a quiz for which the first attempt is completed independently and the second together on the board, and a paper review packet that contains notes and calculator tricks along with additional practice problems.
The kids have received all but the final packet at this point, though a digital copy can be found on Canvas for any kids who might want to start reviewing it this weekend. We haven't started going over those packets together in class yet, but they were given so the kids had the notes included while working on the other items independently. Once we finish up the last quiz at the start of the week, we'll be going over those packets together in class, but I do highly encourage the kids to be going over them some each night leading up to the SOL test, which takes place Thursday, May 25th. Additionally, the kids also have access to an extra credit vocabulary assignment through Canvas. This is in addition to the extra JLabs they can complete for extra credit in Royal Block.
Well, that should cover all the important bits. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
