Greetings! The kids will be returning for the last block of the day soon, so I'm going to try and make this update a quick one. After a quick wrap up of geometric transformations on Monday, the quiz had another take-home quiz on just that topic. There are still a few students who have not completed the quiz, so I ask that parents/guardians check grades on ParentVUE and if you see your child hasn't completed it (or any other assignment), please help me by encouraging him/her to take care of his/her work. While anything currently marked as missing or incomplete is now late, students can still turn the assignments in for full credit as long as they still have Liberty or Lambie Points to spend on the late fee. Even if they've already spent all of their points, they can still turn the work in, though a 10% penalty will be applied to their grade (a 90A is much better than a 0F!).
Once we finished our final Math 8 topic of the year, we dived straight into our SOL review work. The kids received the first of five packets. Each packet represents the five strands that are tested on the SOLs: 1 Numbers & Number Sense (SOL 8.1-8.3), 2 Computation & Estimation (SOL 8.4), 3 Measurement & Geometry (SOL 8.5-8.10), 4 Probability & Statistics (SOL 8.11-8.13), and 5 Patterns, Functions, & Algebra (SOL 8.14-8.18). The packets were a lucky find for me (found in Henrico County Public Schools online resources for any other teachers who might be looking for review materials to use with your own students; let me know if I can help you with finding relevant materials for your courses... I'm more than happy to help!) as they include a few extra notes, tips, and Desmos directions. We went over the whole packet together in class with me including some of my own extra tips and tricks along the way and I was beyond happy to see that the kids were feeling very confident in their work and abilities by the time we got to today's quiz. The kids were given the second packet to start working on after the quiz, which we'll be going over next week.
The kids are now trickling in for the last block of the day, so I'm going to close things out here. As always, feel free to email with any questions. I hope everyone has an excellent weekend!
