Greetings everyone! I'm still not feeling all that great, so this will likely be a pretty quick weekly summary/summary. I have to start by again thanking the kids for being so great this week. They have been super helpful and cooperative. I hate taking off, but it eased my mind knowing the kids were doing their part to make things run smoothly, but I'll try my best to be in the rest of the year, especially with "SOL season" quickly approaching.
The 7H class worked on probability all week. While it can be a complex topic, the kids have done well with it, especially considering how I was out of commission this week. Given how the week progressed, I did go ahead and make Friday's quiz a "classwork" practice quiz to help prep for next week's test, using it as more of a study guide. We'll do a little review on Monday before taking the test.
The MSM2 classes worked on sequences, which we connected to our previous work on relations/functions. The kids have done fairly well on this topic as well, though vocabulary memorization continues to be a concern with some. The kids have made the usual "smart card" for the unit, but I encourage them to make flash cards to match the appropriate terms with each other (arithmetic = adding sequence = common difference; geometric = multiplying sequence = common ratio). Again, this unit's quiz was given as a "classwork" quiz for the same reasons mentioned above, though feel the kids probably would have been fine on their own. It did seem to help with overall good results for the county assessment that took place on Thursday. However many of the kids in my period 5/6 class did complain that the substitute rushed them through the quiz and there were a few distractions that day, so I have told them that they'll be able to do corrections on this one. We started working probability, but haven't gotten very far into it, so we'll wrap it up next week.
Everyone is reminded that there is one last extra credit opportunity on TenMarks.com (due 4/14) and that the term ends on Friday, April 15th. For my classes, grades for term 3 will end with this past week's assignments; all grades from next week will go onto the final term report card to allow for any necessary make-up time. I'm hoping to resume tutoring next week, but I'll let everyone know if that doesn't end up happening. I feel like I'm leaving something out at this point, but I'll send another update if I remember.
