Greetings! I'll be keeping this post quick... I know I say that often and then you get a novel, but I promise this update will stay on the shorter side. We're a week away from the math SOL tests, so it was more of the same: REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW! To break up the monotony of the review, I was able to change things up a little in the middle of the week by taking the kids outside to the tennis courts to work on their review packets in groups. Not too hot or cold (why am I talking about cold temperatures in May?) and the rain hadn't made it's way into the area yet, so the kids seemed to appreciate the change of pace. The kids in all the classes took one (7H) or two (MSM2) more of the SOL review quizzes. We'll be wrapping up these quizzes this last week before the math SOLs.
On Friday I gave my afternoon classes some time to play around with the practice SOL items available in the testing program (TESTNAV). It's a new version that has some great new features and we've gotten a little practice when we did the ARDT pre- and post-tests earlier this year, but we've run across some drawbacks that even made the news this past week. I'll give my own 1st period class time with the tools on Monday after their quiz, so they can ask any questions then while I'm still able to answer. There's very little I can say once testing has started, so now is the time to ask. I've encouraged the kids to practice both the content and the tools for the test outside of school if they are able to access the TESTNAV system. I'm not entirely sure whether that will be possible on their Chromebooks as I'm not sure whether it's set up so they can access the program when not on the school system's internet, but it can't hurt to try and get the extra practice.
Well, I'm going to close things out here (I didn't get too long winded here, right?), but as always feel free to email if you have any questions. I won't be 100% connected today and tomorrow, but I'll check periodically and even if I'm not able to respond this weekend, I'll get back to folks during the school week. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
