Greetings! It's been a busy week, but my day isn't quite over yet since I've got my niece again this afternoon for a little extra equation help before I run my "auntie's taxi service" again to cart her home. Because of this, the update will be super fast but please feel free to email if you find yourself with questions.
As I mentioned in last week's update, I used Monday's quiz as an opportunity to review test-taking strategies along with additional lesson time for the topic by doing the quiz with them. Thankfully all the grades were good, but there were a few who still didn't make a 100% A+, even with me giving all the answers. For a few, it was simply because they were out on the actual day of the quiz and thus had to make it up on their own (open notes) once they returned, but for those who were here, it's a matter of not fully paying attention. I'd really appreciate it if folks would have a conversation with any child who did not make a 100% (grades for this are already posted in MP3) in regards to the need to pay attention to anything I'm going over in class at any time.
The rest of the week has been spent on the beginnings of a related unit, consumer applications. We're still working on the basics at this point (just balancing a checkbook as well as the percent proportion and percent of change so far), but we'll be moving onto things like tax and discount first thing Monday. We'll be working on a mini project in class to go along with this, so the timing for the week is a little bit up in the air depending on how long the kids end up needing for the project. If we work quickly, I'm hoping we can take the quiz for the unit by Friday, otherwise it will be sometime early in the following week (the week of Feb. 18).
Well, my auntie duties are calling, so I'm going to close things out here, but please let me know if you have any questions. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
