SOLs Covered: 7.PFA.1 Proportional Relationships & Slope; 7.MG.4 Dilations (Geometric Transformation)
Math Topic: 12 Proportional Relationships & Slope; 13 Geometric Transformations - Dilations
Daily Agenda: March 9-13, 2026
Upcoming Assessments: Unit 8 Slope & Dilations (finish Mon. 3/16); Unit 9 Probability (Mon. 3/23)
Greetings! It's been another crazy week with the last bit of MAP testing, made even crazier with adjusted schedules due to the testing, so let's jump right into things. Before going over this week's math happenings, I want to remind everyone that grades close tonight at midnight for most of our work, the exception being this week's assignments, which will still be accepted on Monday (i.e. everything from Topics 9-11 and most of 12 will lock at midnight tonight, 12.20, 13.03, 13.05, and the Unit 8 summative will lock at midnight on Monday, 3/16). This gives time for me to grade all work and pull kids for any last minute things before we have to post the final grades to the system for report cards. I have updated grades several times today, so please look at their latest results and then speak with your child about taking advantage of this last chance to improve their grades.
While we did have MAP testing twice this week (Monday was for English, Thursday was for math), we carried on with our work, wrapping up our work with slope on Monday and moving onto dilations (a type of geometric transformation) the rest of the week. The many disruptions to our schedule/calendar this term has forced me to cut down on the amount of time I ideal would have liked to spend on these topics. Because of this, I turned our final summative into another lesson and I'm working through it with them. We've done this for formative assessments before, so it's not completely new for the kids, but I wouldn't normally do the same with a summative. It does allow for the addition of really getting into test-taking strategies and discussing possible "tricks" that have been known to pop up in SOL questions in the past. We only got about halfway through the test in each class today, so we'll be finishing it together on Monday. Please keep this in mind when results are posted because as long as your child follow's along, they'll have a guaranteed 100A+ for their final summative of the term, which for some will be a big boost to their grades if they've not taken advantage of the chance to correct the previous summatives to earn back lost points.
That should cover the important highlights, but please reach out if you have any questions. Again, please help us help the kids end the term at their best by completing anything still listed as missing in the grade book, correcting assessments, and/or redoing low-grade assignments. I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
