Greetings, folks! This update will be fairly quick since the week wasn't all that eventful. As promised, on Monday the 7H class was given a new properties quiz that had much better results than the one they took the Friday before. They spent the rest of that class and Tuesday on the study guide preparing for the test, which was started on Wednesday and finished on Thursday with overall good marks. We ended the week by going over the most missed questions from both tests as part of our review for the first benchmark test of the year.
The MSM2 classes started the week by taking the comparing and ordering quiz that had been postponed from the previous week. Their results were a bit mixed with some struggles lying in a couple different areas. One was the power of ten part of scientific notation, so I had the students switch to drawing a line where the decimal originated and where it is moved rather than drawing the loops under the number the way they were shown in 6th grade as students were often failing to count the non-zero numbers involved in the move. The other big struggle is fractions in general; we talked about common fractions for which the kids should work on memorizing the decimal form as well as reviewing simple long division, which is often a weakness for kids. While there are still some students struggling, the overall results were pretty good and there were some very excited students finally seeing the benefit of showing all their work and taking their time.
We'll continue to review on Monday before the kids start their benchmark test on Tuesday. That being said, students should definitely review on their own as well as making sure they've taken advantage of the Study Island opportunity that closes at the end of the day on Monday.
