Just two weeks to go, folks! For the last two weeks of school, we'll all be wrapping up older assignments and for my classes, working on some newer, fun (at least fun in my opinion, hopefully the kids will agree!) assignments and projects we aren't able to do in the months leading up to SOL testing. Before we get into last week's math events, I want to ask folks to double check their email for any contact from other EDMS 7th grade teachers. We (the 7th grade teachers) have distributed the job of reaching out to parents/guardians to let them know whether their child will be receiving one or more awards during our ceremony that will be held on June 14th. As you've noticed, I always add "EDMS" to my subject lines to better allow folks to filter their emails (I did the same with my award notification emails, "EDMS: 7th Grade Awards, June 14th"), but I'm not sure that the other teachers have a specific routine they follow, but all of our emails are @ccpsnet.net.
Dismissal procedures for parents/guardians wanting to take their children home after the awards are still being finalized and will be shared once set, but for students that stay through the day, we'll later be providing them with a pizza party for lunch. While we are providing the pizza, we are not able to also fund all the paper products, chips, and drinks to go with it, so I set up a SignUpGenius for folks willing and able to help us with this. Thank you so much for all the folks who have already signed up and even started sending in supplies. We still have plenty of slots left if folks still want to help and we all greatly appreciate the help!
Regarding last week's math class happenings, the MSM2 classes covered 2+ final units that fall under the Math 8 category and thus were not on their SOL test. These topics were the Pythagorean theorem (which the kids all agreed the trickiest parts were properly pronouncing Pythagorean and hypotenuse), angle relationships (which has easier to pronounce words, but more vocabulary to memorize), and finally a slight addition (thus the "plus" in the 2+ units) to our data analysis unit with scatter plots. We wrapped all of that up with a quiz on Friday and students were then allowed to work on makeup work or get started on our coding PBL project, which we'll continue next week. The honors class worked on the coding PBL all week, some independently while others working along with me going through each step. They've almost wrapped up the coding side of the project and will be working on the extra pieces (all listed here on the Daily Agenda).
Well, I'm closing things out here but as always, please feel free to email if you have any questions. Hope everyone has a great week!
