Week two is a wrap! It's been a busy week with Chromebook deployment and getting those set up along with our usual math work. On "Chromebook Day," I walked the kids through getting into the Google Classroom group, bookmarking my class website and the subpages they'll need to go to frequently (bell schedule, Daily Agendas, etc.), and adding a few Google Calendars to their own (the county, school, and my tutoring calendars). As new things pop up, I'll continue helping the kids with their Chromebooks. Being the EDMS resident techie nerd, I've got a few tricks up my sleeves to make the Chromebooks easier and more useful for the kids.
On the math side of things, the MSM2 students continued working with integers. There were still some big struggles as we moved along, so we did some major review of all the operations with integers as a whole class. By the end, the kids were feeling much more comfortable and the overall results on Friday's quiz were pretty good. There were two of the fifteen problems that a majority of the kids struggled with, so I'm not counting them against the kids; those questions (both on absolute value) will essentially be extra credit now. We'll hit that topic a little harder during weekly review work. There were a couple absent students and a few others who didn't have enough time to finish before class ended, so I'll go over error analysis (quiz correction) procedures with the kids on Monday before we start our next topic, squares and square roots.
The honors class worked on exponents and roots this week. We started by reviewing the basics they've covered in the past before moving onto imperfect squares. For this, the kids worked on a lab with a partner to "discover" how imperfect squares fall between all the perfect squares. We moved onto cubes and cube roots by exploring a lesson on BuzzMath, which allowed the kids to work with some interactives to see how cubes and cube roots actually work. The kids took a quiz covering all of the topics they've covered up to this point and they wrapped it up quickly, telling me how easy it all was. There are a few who still need a bit of time to finish on Monday, but the results have been great so far.
Well, I'm going to wrap things up here since I've got some work to do on the school website as well. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Hope everyone's having a great weekend!
