Emily from Hartselle texted me - her brother had found a young tuxedo kitty in an oak tree across the street from his work, crying for help. It was her brother's first day on the job, so he could not spend extra time with the kitty. So he called Emily who took charge, who then called me. I told Emily that I could be out there mid-afternoon. Emily drove to the location to verify that the kitty was still stuck, and then waited for me to arrive. When I drove up, Emily was waiting by the tree. The kitty was only about 15 feet up, but just out of reach of an earlier ladder-attempted rescue by a local business owner. The kitty clearly wanted down and appeared friendly. I used my extendable boat hook to put a lanyard up over the nearest limb, climbed up, and the kitty practically jumped into my kat-bag.
Back on the ground, Emily took the kitty+bag to her house which was 10 minutes away. I packed up, and was soon at Emily's home where I scanned for a microchip, but no luck. Emily is an animal lover, having a 8 yr old rescue cocker spaniel and a previous kitty, and decided that the kitty-redistribution system had picked her to be "Oakley"s new owner (named on the spot for being rescued from an oak tree). Emily was already planning the vet visit for shots and neuter when I left. Emily has posted on local lost/found forums about the kitty, but in all probability Oakley has found her forever home. Emily later sent me a photo where Oakley and Pickles (the cocker spaniel) were already getting along!
