A lost KItty UP a Tree
(late December 2024)
UPDATE: Owner located (lives down the road). Carol's sister had been caring for the kitty (she had recently lost her kitty) and had decided to keep him when she was contacted by the owner through a Facebook post.
Carol texted me - an unknown kitty had been stuck in her backyard for two days in Owens Crossroads, could I help? This was only 20 minutes from my house so I was shortly on scene. Carol led me to the backyard where the kitty was hanging out in a spindly cedar tree at about 25 feet. I put my rope in a close-by neighboring tree as it offered a better tie-in point, and there was less chance of spooking the kitty. When I was at height with the kitty, I put a lanyard in the kitty's tree and pulled myself over. The kitty was happy to see me and practically jumped in my lap. Back on the ground, I scanned for a microchip but no luck. The kitty was friendly and well-fed, clearly someone's lost pet. When we tried to release it, the kitty acted like it was scared of the outside and wanted to go back into the cat carrier. My theory is that the kitty is an escaped inside-only cat, that wandered into Carol's back yard and got chased up the tree by her dogs. Carol agreed to keep the kitty while we searched for the owners, I put signs up in the neighborhood that day and posted on local lost pet sites. Hopefully someone will claim this sweet kitty. Ken, many thanks for your help carrying gear back to the truck after the rescue!
