"MewMew" Gets OUT 'N Goes UP
(mid August 2023)
Executive Summary
I received a call on a Wednesday night from Dave in South Huntsville, their indoor kitty "Bartholomew" AKA "MewMew" has escaped outside and was now up a tree. It was too late for a rescue that evening, so I promised to come out the next afternoon after a work meeting. On arrival the next day, Dave led me to the neighbor's back fence, where MewMew was hanging out in a squirrel nest in a hardwood at about 30 feet. I have experienced bad luck recently with indoor-only kitties, so I approached this rescue without much hope of it going well. Dave had put a ladder up against the tree, and I used this to access some lower limbs, from which I used my climbing hook and lanyards to reach MewMew's position. MewMew meowed softly while I was climbing, which was a good sign since silence indicates mistrust. He sniffed my fingers and treat offering with no sign of fear. MewMew allowed me to scruff him with no struggle, and only complained a bit once he was safely in the Kat Bag. Back on the ground, Dave and his wife took him inside for food, water, and treats. All ended happily!
