I received a late night Facebook message from Tina, their family kitty had been stuck for four nights in Walnut Grove MS, could I help? I contacted Tina the next day, got the address, and was soon at her house. Sammy is supposed to be an inside kitty, but escaped outside was chased up the tree by their outside dogs. I was led to a cedar tree a few yards behind their house by Brittany, Tina's adult daughter, who was actually Sammy's owner. Sammy was about 35 feet up a skinny cedar. Dense limbs prevented a throw bag shot to this tree, so I climbed a neighboring tree to about 20 feet, transferred over, then continued until I was at height with Sammy. Sammy had retreated a few feet out on a small limb, but by stretching, I could just reach him. Tina warned me that he might not be friendly, and this proved accurate, and he did not warm up to me even with wet cat food. I finally simply pulled up the net and used my short rescue pole to grab him as I did not want to risk him escaping my scruff grab. It was fortunate that I did this, as Sammy went full berserk mode after the grab, and it was quite a tussle to stuff him into the net. Back on the ground, Brittany took the net and brought Sammy inside for some long delayed food and water. Sammy, please stay inside! Brittany, thanks for your help in carrying equipment to/from the tree and with your assistance during the rescue. Tina, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
