Brandy contacted me about an unknown kitty who had been stuck behind their house for two nights in Florence MS. When I arrived the next day, I could hear the kitty crying when I stepped out the truck. Brandy and Justin led me behind the house to a swampy, overgrown area where the kitty was stuck about 35 feet up a large hardwood. The only places to set a rope were high (60 feet), in the kitty's union, or on a branch away from the trunk. I initially tried the high point, but kept missing. I then tried the kitty's union, but the line got hung up in some small branches above the union, spooking the kitty who started climbing higher on the trunk. Fortunately, it came back down, so I abandoned that and settled for the branch that was above the kitty but away from the trunk. I had to keep a lanyard on trunk during the ascent which slowed me down, but I finally reached the kitty. The stray kitty was extremely friendly, clearly someone had been taking care of it. It was an easy nab-N-bag, and back on the ground the kitty went into a carrier where Brandy gave it a couple of cans of wet cat food. I scanned for a microchip, but did not find one. Brandy could not keep it inside because of their dog, but was going to put a place for it outside while she searched for an owner. Brandy, Justin, and Cynthia, many thanks for your generous donations to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
