This post is about two orange boys, "Valentino" and "Garfield" who got themselves into trouble and needed my help. "Autumn" from Toney AL contacted me, her family's kitty "Valentino" had been missing for about three days and they had just found him up a tree on their property. I drove out the next morning and met Autumn at the tree. Valentino was only about 20 ft up on a long horizontal limb in a hardwood, and seemed like an easy rescue. However, when I started pulling my rope up, he spooked and went way out on the limb, looking like he wanted to jump down. I gave Autumn my handled net, and asked her to stand under Valentino in case he jumped. I continued pulling my rope up, and Valentino jumped down, landing on the handle of the net, and then falling the rest of the way to the ground. He took off, and was clearly OK. Valentino showed up the next day at the house, ready to make up for some missed meals!
The next day Jessica/Huntsville called me, their orange boy 'Garfield' had been stuck in a tree for three days and they needed help. When I arrived, Jessica led me to the tree where Garfield was only 15 feet up in the first crotch. He was a big scaredy cat; he could have jumped down easily but was too afraid. I put my rope in the tree was soon at height with Garfield. He warily accepted some treats, but was not comfortable with me. I said 'TOO BAD' and grabbed him and stuffed him in the Kat Bag. He yowled loudly at the indignity of it all, but he was soon back on the ground and safely inside - all ended well!
