The post concerns two rescues done in mid-January. Donovan from Ragland contacted me, their family kitty "Mr. Moo Moo Kitty" had been stuck for two days and they needed help. When I arrived, I was met by Donovan and a friend Peyton who led me to a pine tree behind the house. MooMoo was about 40 feet up and miserable, yowling loudly. I put a throwbag about 10 ft above the kitty, and started pulling the throwline to get to the end of it so that I could attach my rope. MooMoo was complaining loudly the whole time, but then his yowls suddenly went silent causing me to look up in time to see MooMoo falling, bouncing off of limbs. I was able to break the fall a little with my hands but the kitty still hit the ground very hard. He was stunned for a moment, allowing me to capture him and wrap him up in towel that Peyton had. Back in the house, MooMoo limped as he scampered away once released. Donovan later told me that he checked the kitty over and could not feel anything broken, so hopefully MooMoo just has a bad sprain and will recover. The only photo of MooMoo is the one in the pine tree.
About a week later, I was contacted by Jacey - her rescue kitty "Pugsley" had been stuck in a tree in Owen's Cross Roads overnight - could I help? When I arrived, Jacey, her hubby and some neighbors met me - all were concerned about Pugsley who was hanging out at 35 ft in a spindley tree. A complicating factor was that they had tried to cut the tree down but realized after some cutting it would fall on a utilty drop, so they secured it to neighboring tree with a large strap. I was not concerned about the tree falling since the cut was not too deep, but out of caution I put my main line line in the neighboring tree and my climbing hook in Pugsley's tree. Climbing was laborious having to manage both ropes but I eventually reached Pugsley, who happily went into the cat bag. Back on the ground, Jacey took charge of Pugsley as there was a young child who missed his kitty. All ended happily. Jacey, many thanks for your generous donation that will go to a Huntsville area animal rescue!
