Mowgli GOes Up But Not Down

(early Apr 2023)

Executive Summary

I was sitting in a training session in Decatur AL trying to pay attention when I noticed a text from Baelie in Guntersville -- their orange boy Mowgli had been stuck overnight, could I help?  Training ended at noon, so I arranged to be there  by mid-afternoon.  On the drive over, Baelie called and apologized for asking me to come out for such an "easy" rescue since Mowgli was only about 25 feet high, but out of ladder reach. I explained that I NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT EASY RESCUES and that I was happy to come out.  When  I arrived, Baelie led me to the neighbors front yard, where Mowgli was in a sturdy oak tree.  Mowgli had been chased up the tree by a dog they were fostering, who had a bad habit of escaping the pen. Baelie's husband had been able to get within finger tip reach of Mowgli by standing on the top rung of the ladder (YIKES!) but had not been able to grab Mowgli.  A tip for longer life - PLEASE DON'T STAND ON THE TOP RUNG OF A LADDER!

I put a rope above Mowgli, and climbed up -- Mowgli watched me, rubbing his head on the limb and crying for a rescue. When I reached him we quickly made friends, and I pulled the hefty 14-lb boy into my lap. After a couple of minutes of loving I stuffed him in the bag which he did not like.  A quick trip to the ground, and then we brought Mowgli inside for food, water, and nap.   I do love easy rescues!

Baelie, many thanks for your generous donation to Lovable Feline Rescue of North Alabama!
