"Scuttlebutt" Needs Help

(mid Jun 2022)

Executive Summary

Donald left a voicemail about "Scuttlebutt", one of his young rescue kitties. She had been stuck 30 ft up a tree for two nights near Ardmore AL after having been chased up there by a stray cat. I called him back, and arranged to be there the next morning. Donald met me on arrival, and led me to a smallish hardwood tree where Scuttlebutt was hanging out at 30 ft. She meowed softly at us and wanted a rescue. Donald said that she was semi-skittish, so I did not have high hopes of being able to nab her; my thoughts were that I would probably have to resort to placing a trap in the tree. I put a rope at about 50 feet and Scuttlebutt yowled at the frightening things going on in her tree, but did not move from her spot. I started climbing, pausing frequently, sweet talking, and occasionally shaking a treat bag, but she had no interest in food. I had Donald move opposite of me, so that Scuttlebutt had to divide her attention between the two of us. When she would look away from me, I would creep up a little bit (like a NINJA!), and then act nonchalant when she turned back to me. When I finally got close enough, I made a quick Nab-N-Grab when she was looking away - fortunately, she did not fight me and went into the bag with only a few yowls. Back on the ground, Donald took her in for food and water, and he later reported that she immediately began chowing down. I was relieved that all ended happily.

Donald, many thanks for generous donation to Lovable Feline Rescue of North Alabama.
