Rachel contacted me - her kitty("Luna", a boy) had been stuck overnight at a neighbors near Ardmore AL and she needed help. When I arrived mid-morning the next day, Luna was still stuck at about 50 feet in a hickory tree. It looked like I could set a rope below him, and then reach him by climbing a bit higher. I set a throwline at the target limb, but then we noticed that Luna had zoomed all the way up to the tippy-top (70 ft) and was swaying in the tiny branches on the fringe. SIGH. I thought he was out of grab-pole reach, so we planned to try to shake him out into a net. We set up my big net, and I shot a throwline over the tiny limb that he was on. When trying to isolate the line to get a rope up there, Luna moved to a different limb. So, I shot again over the new limb, only to have Luna move back to the original limb. By this time almost two hours had passed without any real rescue progress so I decided to climb and hope for the best (either cut the limb or get close enough for a grab). When I got up there I was surprised to find that I could just reach maximum grab pole range. I pulled up the grab pole, snagged Luna, and then pulled him back to me. What then transpired was a lot of yowling-cat wrangling as I lost my handle on the end of the pole and was stuck holding the cat-spitting-yowling-scratchy end while trying to get Luna into the net. After more than a minute of tussling, I was able to stuff him into net. WHEW. When I descended to about 30 ft, I lowered the net+Luna down to Rachel who carried him to her house for food and water. Many thanks to Rachel's main Squeeze (hubby) and the super nice home owner who assisted and were patient throughout out the three hour process.
