"Tiger" Is Trapped By A Tree

(early Oct 2022)

Executive Summary

Jessica contacted me on a Friday about a young rescue kitty "Tiger" who had been stuck four days in a tree behind her house near Iuka MS. A sibling had been stuck also but came down on its own but Jessica was doubting that Tiger could do the same. I arranged to come out the next day, but I received a land search callout later in the afternoon and had to postpone until Sunday. On arrival at the rural location, I walked to the back yard and soon found the pine tree that was holding Tiger prisoner. Tiger was about 35 ft up, moving between several branches, and meowing occasionally. As I was setting the rope, Jessica arrived -- she had been nearby visiting her Mom. I discussed with Jessica the possibility of hauling her up into the tree if Tiger ran from me, and she was ready to do that if needed. I began climbing; sweet talking to Tiger as I ascended. Tiger came back to the tree directly over my rope and watched me for a little while, then retreated a short way back out on the limb. When I reached the tie-in point, I was just below Tiger's limb, and he was about 8 feet out from the trunk, watching me carefully. I shook a treat bag at him but Tiger did not seemed that interested. I looked down and began fussing with my lanyards, preparing to move a little closer to him. When I looked back up, Tiger had come back to the tree was trying to climb down to me! A quick nab and Tiger was soon safe in the bag. Back on the ground, Jessica released Tiger from the bag, who then had a hard time deciding between eating/drinking, loving on his Mom, or checking out all this strange stuff spread around the tree. A happy ending on a beautiful October day.

Jessica, many thanks for your generous donation to Lovable Feline Rescue of North Alabama!
