"Scout" is Stuck Again

(mid Mar 2020)

Executive Summary

DeAnna contacted me about her kitty 'Scout' who was stuck in a tree in Saltillo MS. It turns out that I had rescued Scout in 2016 when he was owned by someone else. This time, an unknown dog had chased him up a tree. Scout was only 30 feet up and it seemed like the rescue would be easy, but, alas it was not. Scout became spooked when I set the line, descended a little ways, then went out about 8 feet on a shaky limb. DeAnna and Vicky held a tarp underneath Scout as I climbed up to him. Scout ignored my food bribe, so I was forced to snag him with the rescue pole. Scout was an extremely chunky monkey, and I struggled lifting him off the limb. As I maneuvered him towards my net, I noticed too late that the noose was not tight enough, and he began slipping out. He fell about 20 feet, bounced off of DeAnna's chest, hit the tarp, then headed home across the street. Unbeknownst to us, that unknown dog had snuck back around during the rescue and began chasing Scout. Fortunately, Scout was able to beat the dog to the kitty door and made it inside safely. DeAnna vowed to find the owner of the dog in order to have an intense discussion about boundaries! Deanna and Vicky, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
