Buttermilk is in Trouble Again
(early May 2021)
Executive Summary
Richard from Oxford called. Buttermilk was up a tree again, this time a pine tree. The shed that Buttermilk typically hung out in was demolished, and Richard thought that this is what caused Buttermilk to go up a tree. When I arrived, Richard led me to the tree where Buttermilk was hanging out at 40 feet. I established a rope in the tree and was soon at Buttermilk's limb. She was about 10 feet out from the trunk, and would not come to me despite repeated food bribes and sweet talking. Because her last rescue was traumatic, I decided to try a trap approach - if that failed I would try a more risky grab pole rescue the next day. I put the trap on the limb and left. Unfortunately, strong storms came through the area that afternoon, and so I had low expectations when I arrived the next morning to inspect the trap figuring that the trap had been triggered by the storms. But miracles do occur - Buttermilk was in the trap! I quickly retrieved Buttermilk and then delivered her to Natascha Techen Scott of 9 Lives Cat Rescue of Oxford, who had agreed to put Buttermilk up for adoption. Buttermilk had wandered up to Richard's place a few months previously, and Richard could not make her an inside only kitty as he already had three inside kitties, and the outside kitty approach did not seem to be working. Bless you Natascha and 9 Lives Cat Rescue!
