"Ashley" -- A Tortie in Trouble

(late Jul 2022)

Executive Summary

Karen texted me early on a Saturday morning. Her three-year old Tortie, Ashley, had been stuck up a tree near her rural home in Cullman AL since Wednesday, and all rescue attempts had failed - could I help? I said that I could, packed the truck, and was there in about an hour. Karen met me and led us on a trek through three fences and into the woods, where Ashley was hanging out in a Tulip Popular at about 35 feet. Ashley was crying loudly for help and moving between two branches. When I set the rope at about 45 feet, Ashley became concerned and retreated out on one of the branches, keeping careful watch on everything. I geared up and began climbing. I climbed slowly, sweet talking to Ashley the entire way. When I reached her limb, Ashley was still cautiously eyeing me, unwilling to come closer. However, that changed when I brought out the treat bag. She stood up, and carefully made her way to me where I nabbed her once she was in range. Ashley did not fuss on the way down, and Karen took her back to the house while I packed up. Once back at the truck, Ashley checked out my gear allowed me to hold her for a post rescue photo. All ended happily!

Karen, many thanks for your extremely generous donation to Lovable Feline Rescue of North Alabama!
