"ACE" Gets a Home
(late July 2021)
Executive Summary
This rescue occurred in the third week of July. I received a voicemail from Jane, who lives below Meridian, near Enterprise. An unknown black/white kitty had been stuck since the previous night in a pine tree along their back fence line. The kitty was crying for help, so likely it was not feral and was socialized. They could not care for the kitty, so I contacted Karen M., who follows my rescues and who had offered once before to take an unwanted kitty if there was no other option. Karen lives in Enterprise, and agreed to care for the kitty if I was able to rescue it. Jane was at work when I arrived the next day, but it was easy to locate the tree as there was a ladder leaning up against it. The kitty was crying its heart out, and hanging out at about 35 feet. When I put a rope in the tree, the kitty bolted to the tip-top, at about 50 feet. However, I knew that I would be able reach the kitty with my long grab pole, so I just hauled it and my net up there during the climb. I was able to grab the kitty with the pole without too much trouble, but it was a tussle getting him into the net. Once in the net, I had trouble getting the hoop off of the kitty, but finally succeeded. Back on the ground, I packed up the gear, with the kitty safely ensconced in the net. I scanned the kitty for a chip but did not find one. Jane arrived about this time and thanked me for rescuing the kitty. I finally finished packing, and then the kitty and I retreated to cool air conditioning of the truck cab. Karen's house was only 15 minutes away, and we were there in short order. Karen and her husband have a beautiful older home, with wide porches, lots of tree, green grass, and a creek at the back - in short, a kitty heaven. Karen took charge of the kitty (with tentative name of 'Ace'), and reported later that he is a non-neutered male, good natured, and was getting along with her other cats. Karen, you are my hero for taking Ace into your loving home -- many, many thanks!
