This post is about two rescues that occurred in mid-October. Sam from Cherokee AL called me - his sweet kitty Zelda was stuck 30 feet up a tree, could I help? I said yes, and arrived mid-morning the next day. Sam led me to a tree where Zelda was hanging out. She did not spook when I put my throwline over limb, and just watched with curiosity as I pulled up my rope. As I climbed, she kept rubbing her head on the limb so I knew this would be an easy rescue. When I reached her, she cooperated with the grab-N-bag and was soon back on the ground, where Sam took her inside for food, water and rest. Sam, many thanks for your extremely generous donation to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
A few days later I recieved a text from Vivian - her in-law's kitty Pachita was stuck in a tree in Albertsville AL and needed help. I packed up and headed out. As I turned on the street I thought it looked familiar but I decided that I was imagining things. I was led by Vivian's mother-in-law to a neighbor's backyard where Pachita (a snow white kitty) was sitting on a limb at 50 feet. The neighbor came out, and I quickly explained the situation and asked permission to climb the tree. He said "Sure", and then said "By they way, you rescued our kitty a while back!". AH HA - that is why it was familiar, I rescued "Hazel" from the same yard, different tree, in November 2023! I put a rope in the tree was soon standing on Pachita's limb. She had spooked and was way, way out on the limb but after a lot of sweet talking, she came back to just out of grab range. Then she retreated, came back again, retreated, back again, etc about five times. The last time it seemed that she was not coming back so I installed a live trap and came back down. The next morning I was tied up with another commitment, but MeowMax (Max G from Athens) went out to check on her. Pachita was not in the trap, but when Max climbed up to the limb, Pachita came right to him and Max was able to bag her. Whew, that was harder than it should have been but Pachita was soon back safely on the ground. Thanks for the help Max!
