"bob (RobertA)" Goes Flying

(early June 2024)

Leslie from Fort Payne called - one of her kitties, "Bob" (short for "Roberta") had been stuck for two nights in a tree behind her house, could I help.  I called my friend MeowMax as my back injury does not allow me to climb, and he agreed to come out with me to to do the rescue. When we arrived, we were met by Leslie, Collin (her husband) and their young daughter. They led us to the backyard where "Bob" was hanging out at the end of a limb at about 30 ft.  Max and I discussed it, and there was no way that Max was going to be able to get within grab pole range of the kitty so we decided to cut the limb.  While Collin and I set up a large baseball netting underneath "Bob", Max geared up for climbing.  After the net was set up, Max climbed up, then pulled up an electric chain-saw-on-a-stick to do the cutting. The plan was for for Max to cut the limb, the limb would droop, and "Bob" would fall in the net. Collin was standing by with a handheld net to pin down "Bob" after she fell into the baseball netting. Leslie began filming with her cellphone while Max cut the limb. However, when the limb started to fall, "Bob" launched herself and almost landed on Leslie, who was standing at the edge of the net. Bob hit the ground and then ran under the house. She emerged a few hours later to snuggle with her brother, and she was fine.  Leslie and Collin - many thanks for your extremely generous donation to the Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit (even though we mistreated poor Roberta). MeowMax - thanks for again for climbing while I recover from my back injury.
