"MO" Reappears

(early June 2021)

Executive Summary

Michelle contacted me about "Mo", an escaped inside-only kitty who had been missing for about a month. Mo had reappeared, stuck in a tree by the driveway, and it was unknown how many days he had been there. Michelle lives between Tupelo and Pontotoc, and I drove through monsoon rains on the way, which fortunately slowed to a light drizzle when I arrived. Mo was in a large oak tree about 30 feet up, and clearly miserable. When I called to him, Mo stood up, shook off lots of water and complained loudly. Mo became spooked when I tried to set a line and came down to the first fork at 20 feet. I set a line on the opposite side of the tree from him so I could climb without him noticing me as I as unsure how he would react when I got close. The last thing I wanted to happen was for him to jump down and run away, which would put us back at square one. While Michelle distracted him with sweet talk and a treat bag, I climbed stealthily (LIKE A NINJA!) up the rope until I was right behind him. You never know how a kitty is going to react to a grab from behind when they have not seen you, but fortunately Mo just scrunched down and went limp. I believe he was tired and ready to go home. Mo easily went into the bag, and was brought inside by Michelle once I descended. She reported that Mo briefly hit the food dish, and then reunited with his siblings. All ended happily! Michelle, many thanks for your generous donation to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society!
