"ZeldA" And "Mozzie

late September 2023)

Executive Summary

It was early on a Saturday when Susan from Guntersville texted me.  Their kitty 'Zelda' had been stuck in a tree behind their house for four nights and all rescue attempts had failed.  When I arrived, Susan led me to the tree where Zelda was hanging out at about 30 ft, way out on a limb. I climbed up and started sweet talking; Zelda made her way towards me but at about four ft away turned around and went back out.  I decided to try a pole grab as I could not get high enough to swing over to her. I pulled up my pole and net, and started trying to snare Zelda.  Many small limbs kept getting in the way, but somehow I managed get the noose over her body. I pulled the hoop tight, dragged the squalling Zelda off the limb and stuffed her in the net. I lowered the net to ground where she was taken inside for food and water.  Susan reported that five minutes after exiting the net, Zelda was acting like nothing had happened - grooming, eating, drinking - all ended happily.

The next afternoon, I received a text from Ginger in Guntersville - her kitty "Mozzie" had been stuck for three nights and needed help. It was too late to go that evening, so I arrived around 8:30 am the next morning. Mozzie was about 50 ft up a large hardwood and crying for a rescue. After I put a rope in the tree, Mozzie retreated out on a limb and quieted down. Once I climbed up to her limb, Mozzie was too scared to come to me, so I used my lanyards to carefully make my way over to her. She stayed put, and accepted scritches once I got close.  I snagged Mozzie via her scruff and she went quietly into the bag. Ginger took charge of Mozzie back on the ground and gave her food and water -  Mozzie's ordeal was over!
