"Josie" Requires a Fast Grab
(mid May 2023)
Executive Summary
I received a text about a stuck kitty that was only 10 minutes from my house in Huntsville AL. When I arrived, Cheryl (grandmom of the kitty) met me and led me a large pine tree, where "Josie" was hanging out at about 25 feet. I put my rope on an alternate trunk next to Josie's trunk as there was no good place for a rope above Josie's position. I was soon at height with Josie but out of reach. Josie was acting skittish and did not respond to a food bribe. I thought about trying to use a grab pole, but decided to risk pulling myself closer. I slowly put a lanyard on Josie's trunk and carefully pulled myself a little closer. I put my cat bag on my hand, then gathered myself. LIKE A NINJA I STRUCK - LIGHTNING FAST WAS THE GRAB! Fortunately, Josie was a bit of a chunk and could not escape up the tree fast enough so after some kitty wrangling she was in the bag. Whew. I did not feel like climbing higher that day. Josie was soon back on the ground and safe in the house!
